Tuesday Running Man: Episode 161, Running Man vs Shinhwa

This week's episode is a continuation of last week's. Five Shinhwa pirates go against Running Man members to fight for the missing gold. Remember last week when all of the Running Man members were kidnapped and these pirates stole their gold? It turns out that the gold was missing and they have to go through a set of missions to obtain the gold again. (Well, that's the plot)

The first mission is a flag sort of rugby game where they have to get the right color flag and bring it to the finish line. The team who brings more flags to the finish line, wins.

Like what we've seen last week, the location of the first game was on an island in the middle of the sea that only comes out during low tide. It looks so cool.

Before the actual game, there was a mini game where they had to get flags and run as far as possible before the time runs out. Lee Kwang Soo, being the sweet guy that he is to Ji Hyo (although they don't quite acknowledge it, but it's always caught on camera), saved a flag for Ji Hyo. *awwe*

For this game, Shinhwa won with much effort. Shinhwa was good on the game but I think the Running Man members didn't give their whole effort into winning this time. Being much more experienced in these physically exhausting kind of weird games, Running Man could've won, in my opinion.

Shinhwa, with their win, gets a clue for the final mission. The Running Man members, on the other hand, gets a vague clue.

The next game is created for lunch, where a team chooses a meal that they want and bets it in a game. Whichever team wins, gets the meal.

The first game is foot wrestling. They chose Kwang Soo for this game because of his huge feet. I think the food that they would win for this challenge is spicy braised chicken.

In commemoration of the first foot wrestling game in history (?), they took a photo. It was so hilarious, two men with their foot together. HAHAHA!

Running Man team won this game simply because Jun Jin decided to give the win to Kwang Soo, since his foot couldn't take the pain anymore.

The next game is the kind that I usually like where they have to act and the other team has to guess. Only one of them (Shinhwa) is listening to a certain music and the Running Man team has to guess who that is.

Eric was so funny in this segment because of his weird dancing and poker face acting. Shinhwa won this time because of Lee Min Woo's acting.

The next game is between Lee Min Woo and Kim Jong Kook, both deemed to be the strongest of the teams. Ji Suk Jin above shows his support for Kim Jong Kook by singing a cheesy song about Jong Kook's biceps. Oh, wanko hyung you're so cheesy that it's hilarious.

Of course, our muscle man Kim Jong Kook won this round because of his bulging muscles and muscle shirt.

The last game was the hand hitting game and the highlight was Kim Jong Kook's "chopper" hands. Look at all his effort! His muscles, plus impatient personality, plus muscle shirt equals to a music video created for him by the Running Man members, and wanko-hyung's vocals.

Shinhwa again won this round and gets kalguksu.

Lunch time! We see Shinhwa here giving fan service. If only I was a fan, I'd scream for this. Maybe the Shinhwa fans out there are spazzing right now?

The teams all got to eat their respective lunch meals. Shinhwa wins overall, and they get another clue. The Running Man team, again, gets a vague clue.

The last game in order to obtain the last clue is the wrestling game where the first team to be washed out from the float, loses. It is decided that Ji Hyo won't be playing the game and instead becomes the referee so that the game would be "fair," number of members wise.

Sadly, the Running Man team loses again to Shinhwa and gets a vague clue again. Shinhwa eventually gets all the clues and they have the advantage for the last mission.

The teams discuss the clues for the last mission and what they would do next. The Running Man team is clueless yet because of their experience, they immediately gets some hints on what the last mission is. Shinhwa, on the other hand, plans how to attack the other team.

Even though the Running Man team didn't win in the past games, they showed how experienced they were in name tag ripping in the last game. Song Ji Hyo even took Hye Sung's name tag off and got him out by herself.

Cute little neighborhood dog runs to Hye Sung when he got out, which made him look more miserable.

Hye Sung followed the dog to jail. So cute!

The last mission was actually this: they have to know who "the one who does not die/ immortal one" is from each team, and they should get his shoe. After getting the shoe of the other team's immortal, it should be brought to the rooftop with the yellow parasol and they should shout a chant, which is "gold power, disappear you immortal!"

Yoo Jae Suk was the immortal in team Running Man and Eric in Shinhwa.

When Eric got a hold of Yoo Jae Suk's shoe, Kwang Soo ended up piggy-back riding Jae Suk.

Eric did the mission and got a golden glove with another mission. The real final mission in order to obtain the gold is to remove the other team's name tag of the immortal one so that the person (Yoo Jae Suk in this case) would not be an immortal anymore, with the use of the golden glove. Afterwards, the two name tags of the immortals should be collected to get the gold.

Eric was so desperate upon finding out the real final mission that he told the Running Man members to get away from him because once they had been touched by the gold glove, they would die/be out.

Eric eventually removed Jae Suk's name tag and shouts the chant, but he failed.

He then asks Kwang Soo what the chant was, which was hilarious.

Finally, Shinhwa wins the gold! Even though team Running Man didn't win, it was still a fun episode with Shinhwa. However, I really think that they went easy on Shinhwa this time. I hope they invite them again and win (hopefully haha).

Next week's episode is an idol special, and I know that the boys (and Ji Hyo) will spazz upon seeing the idols. I think that it'll be chaotic yet fun because of the youth spirit, and I'm so excited that they brought the blob jump again!

  1. "Eric was so desperate upon finding out the real final mission that he told the Running Man members to get away from him because once they had been touched by the gold glove, they would die/be out." ~ You meant to complete the final mission instead? Cus as you stated before this, Eric already found out the final mission is (getting YJS's name tag to retrieve the gold).

It wasn't desperate, it's probably Eric's scare tactics to deter LKS & Jihyo and it seems to work cus both Kangsoo & Jihyo were taken aback by that XD

I think both team put out their best effort to win challenges. Being experience does give Running Man an edge over guests but Shinhwa is known for their athletic ability (especially Junjin & Andy), foxiness (Eric & Junjin) and most of all, being together 15 years their coordination & team works shine through :D

    1. Yes yes, it was his tactic. Haha! I just meant that he did it in a funny way. He was so cute hahaha. And yes it indeed worked, which was even more hilarious.

Yup, yup. Even if I wasn't actually a fan and weren't aware of Shinhwa's athletic abilities, but watching them now in variety shows has been really fun! ^^

  2. Kangsoo was probably had an ooops moment there or he was under Eric's 4D spell. Automatically replied when he was suddenly asked by Eric for the remaining of the spell... Even YJS & Jihyo were stunt after :)

Running Man members enjoying Shinhwa's company (they're no stranger to Shinhwa at all). And at the end, Jongkook said to Shinhwa to comeback again (perhaps out of courtesy but he seems genuine when he said that) <3

    1. Yep! I think if it was him (Kwang Soo) too, he'd forget what the spell was. But because he panicked, he said it correctly to Eric hahaha! I do hope they come back again and I want them to play in a olympic style game like when younger idols come to the show~ ^^

    2. It was so cute that moment, I couldn't stop replaying it.

Aside from Joongkoo for his physical strength, and MC Yoo (he ain't "Nation MC" for nothing), Kangsoo has become my favorite person from this episode. He's like a giant hyper cute kid that makes me laugh when he comes on screen. That moment when he saved a flag for Jihyo was really sweet.

I hope Shinhwa will come back to RM again in the future :D

Olympic style games? that would be fun. Shinhwa did a Olympic Special on Shinhwa Broadcast too. Silly, fun kind of games :)

Thanks for the recap. I love reading it :)

  3. I didn't like that Hye Sung wanted to say that Jae Suk ripped his nametag off instead of Ji Hyo. Ace Ji Hyo is incredibly capable, and for Hye Sung to be upset because "a girl" ousted him seemed completely insulting to Ji Hyo.
