Reel Thursday: What Happens in Vegas (2008)

What Happens in Vegas is a chick flick starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. I'm an avid watcher of chick flicks, and I usually read this movie off lists of chick flicks to watch, but I don't really make an effort to watch it because it seems too old for my type (although it was released just in 2008). I mean too old in the sense that the concept is the same as everything else. However, one night I was looking (or craving) for movies with cliche stories and I remembered this movie, so I watched it.

The movie starts with Jack (Ashton Kutcher) being laid off by his own father..

And Joy (Cameron Diaz) being dumped by her fiance.

Both parties decided to go to Las Vegas to forget their worries and have fun.

The two had their friends with them, and they met at a room in their hotel because they've been assigned the same rooms. They ended up getting a much better room (penthouse) because of the confusion in room assignment.

Jack and Joy had a lot of fun (Hangover style) hanging out with each other, getting drunk, and doing stupid things together. When they woke up in the morning, they realize that they got married when they were having too much fun. When they both decided to go their separate ways, Jack won the jackpot in the slot machine with the coin that Joy left. That's why Joy is claiming half of the prize that Jack won.

They went to court to have a divorce, but they were not granted a divorce because the judge wanted them to 'work out' on their marriage first for six months with couple therapy and then decide if they still want to get a divorce.

The two were forced to live together in Jack's apartment because Joy didn't have anywhere to stay at (because of her breakup with her fiance). So, the perfect situation to fall in love was created (married and living together).

Jack and Joy letting their rage go in couple therapy.

After a few months of living together, the two developed feelings for each other.

Finally, the six months probation period ended, and the two had their divorce. Joy wanted half of the prize that Jack won, but in the final hearing of their divorce, she said that she didn't want any of it and just the divorce. Why? Watch it and find out.

Of course, after the divorce, they both realize what they had to realize, which is first: Joy has to quit her job because it was exhausting her and she didn't really want to do that, and second: Jack confessed his feelings for Joy. They both lived happily ever after (?) The end.

It was also shown afterwards how these two got married in Vegas, all drunk and stupid.

As I said before, it's your typical feel good chick flick, and that's the reason I watched it. I just think that the sweet 'realizing their feelings' moments were lacking but overall, it's your cliche rom-com movie that we girls like. Shut up and admit that you like cliches, because I do. Hahaha.
