Reel Thursday: The Heat (2013)

I don't care how anyone feels about this movie, because it was really awesome. Its title, "The Heat," comes from the dialogue that one of the main character said to refer to themselves. Thus, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy's characters are "The Heat." Now that I've explained the title, I'm now going to take you through the film, although I will not spoil the essential revelation in the film.

Sandra Bullock plays Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (hereinafter called Ashburn) from the FBI. She's sent to Boston for an assignment in order for her to be promoted.

Melissa McCarthy plays a detective from the Boston Police Department, Detective Shannon Mullins (hereinafter called Mullins). She's a really good detective, but she has a really strong personality which may come off as "annoying" for others.

The two meet because they're handling the same case, but Ashburn insists that she has jurisdiction over the case since the FBI decided to take over the case. Mullins didn't want to give up on that case, so she refuses to hand it over to Ashburn.

Since they both want to handle the case, they wound up meeting a potential informant together, and catch the underlings of the main drug dealer that they're both trying to catch.

In this scene, they're trying to bug the known underling or henchman of the main drug dealer, and so they make use of their lady charms to do that.

However, what they didn't know is that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is also trying to catch this main drug dealer, and the two ladies were quite interfering with their own investigation.

The pair, because of the investigation of the case, bonded over alcohol. They partied all night in that bar.

Mullins' brother was just released from prison and he gave important information on the main drug dealer, however, the two detective's life and Mullins' whole family were in danger because of that. Mullins then tried to evacuate her family from their home to another place safe. The thing is, Mullins was the one who put her own brother to jail.

They were given important information by Mullins' brother, but then it was fake. They ended up stepping out from the investigation because of that.

However, "The Heat" didn't give up just like that. They still took on the investigation. And you guess what happens after that.

I really liked this film because it portrays women in a bad-ass kind of way, and I will not go to another feminist argument about this. Personally, I admire women who have jobs which are usually dominated by men. These two officers are women who knows how to do their thing, and it shows that women can be awesome at jobs "for men." I enjoyed watching Channing and Jonah's bromance in 21 Jump Street, and this female version was much more appreciated. Even though I also think that it's just another feel good American comedy movie, I believe that it's worth the watch and don't even get me started at how I love Melissa McCarthy in this film.

All in all, I recommend this film for those who want a feel-good comedy movie. Again, I hate those people who get too serious about such a movie since it's just meant for fun in a way that's also worth the watch. Hope other people will enjoy this too!
